Description
The SMARTEMP® Inclined Floor Swirl Diffuser, type ISF-AD (Figure 1), is a high-induction, low-velocity floor swirl diffuser designed to optimise occupant thermal comfort in “task-ambient” underfloor air distribution applications. The patent-pending design provides users with enhanced personal control over their local thermal environment, minimises vertical temperature gradients for seated occupants across a wide range of airflow settings, and maximises indoor air quality at occupant face level.
Users can adjust both diffuser airflow rate and discharge direction, allowing them to personalise their local air movement and temperature conditions for improved thermal comfort (Figure 2). The diffuser’s inclined discharge pattern maintains a largely constant throw height to the head level of seated occupants, regardless of airflow damper position. This prevents the reduction in throw distance typically experienced when diffuser airflow is reduced.
This unique feature provides three key benefits:
- Enhanced thermal comfort is maintained by reducing the likelihood of the “cold feet, warm head” sensation that can occur at reduced airflow rates.
- Improved indoor air quality is achieved by preventing high-level stratified contaminants from entering the occupied breathing zone when operating at reduced airflow settings.
- Effective heat removal and improved air quality are maintained at higher airflow rates by preventing excessive air throw from disturbing the upper stratified layer of heat and contaminants and mixing them into the occupied zone.
